Hospital São Sebastião (HSS), a Portuguese State Hospital integrated in the National Health Service provides tertiary health care services for all citizens of its geographical area. Built in 1999, with 317 beds, covers an area with 367.525 habitants. HSS was part of an innovative approach in management and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) supported by the Ministry of Health in order to improve efficiency in the healthcare sector. Since then the hospital became throughout the years a national and recently an international “case study” on Health Public Sector.
